Fertility problems in mares
In spring, many horse owners and breeders are faced with the problem that their mare fails to conceive or resorbs early. There are a number of possible reasons for a mare not becoming pregnant. However, in most cases endometritis is responsible for unsuccessful breeding. This acute or chronic inflammation of the lining of the uterus is usually associated with fluid accumulation. In conventional medicine this problem is treated with flushing to remove debris, followed by use of antibiotics. However this merely reduces the symptoms without addressing the cause. It cannot repair the damage to the endometrium, the immune system remains suppressed, so that frequently pathogenic organisms can spread again and cause further damage to the uterine lining. In these mares the self-cleansing mechanism of the uterus (uterine clearance) is impaired.
